Cricket at it's pinnacle!

In a recent turn of events at Johannesburg in a country known more for its history of apartheid, an exhilarating match threatens to change the history of the game of cricket. South Africa won an eye-popping, mind-blowing and heart pounding match in the clash of titans. Adjectives fall short for a game where South Africa defeated World champions Australia after successfully chasing the highest ever recorded total in One day Internationals (at that time).

On Fri, March 10,2006 batting first, Australia ammassed 434 runs on board with three 50's by Gilchrist, Katich and Hussey and one huge 164 by Ponting. Little would have anyone known that the Proteas had other plans. As protean they can be they clearly embarrased the Aussie bowlers and fielders after "running" 438 with Herschelle Gibbs (as if possesed by The God Himself) and SAF skipper Graeme Smith toying with them. SAF won the game with one ball to spare. A certain Mr. Lewis was smacked for more than 100 runs in 10 overs. God even chose a Friday for the spectacle.

This result definitely will open thoughts to the future of the one-day game and also consequentially the so-called "slower"version called Test. Mindsets of people all around the cricket world will change to "The only things unpredictable are the stock market and cricket."

Totals that appeared on the horizon will seem to be just around the corner. Suddenly, teams will be successfully chasing totals of 350 and more. Definitely teams will approach with a positive mind frame thinking that totals of these magnitude might be acheivable with certain risks.

Its high time for the Indian team to think like these teams. Above all, India has the skills and talent in the batting arena to make it possible and where else would it a better venue than at the World cup 07 in West Indies. Go Indians! Go!!
